The context menu (right click menu) isn’t working

Visit the configuration page where you add/edit your messages, and click the “Enable Permissions” button.

If you do not see the “Enable Permissions” button, please ensure you are on version 1.1.13 or higher.

FAQ

Why do I see a button asking me to enable permissions?

The permissions are required in order to enable the context menu (right click menu) feature. Read about all of the Canned Replies features.

This changed was introduced in version 1.1.13 in an effort to better align with best practices of the Chrome Web Store, allowing users to get some of the features of Canned Replies if they are not comfortable giving a browser extension full access.

Before 1.1.13: All hosts data was asked upon installation, requiring all users of Canned Replies to give this permission in order to use the extension. If you had it installed, you granted this permission.

After 1.1.13: All hosts data is optional, allowing users to use some of the features of Canned Replies. You can use some of the features of Canned Replies without granting this permission.

If you already had Canned Replies installed, Chrome has reset your permissions and requires that you enable them explicitly, even though you had already given this permission on install. This is a limitation of the Chrome API’s.

How do I share my Canned Replies between Chrome and Android?

On both Android and Chrome, there are options to import and export a Canned Replies file. This file has a *.json file extension and acts like a database of your messages. The two primary functions are Import and Export. To share messages between Chrome and Android, you will need to do the following:

  1. Export from one device
  2. Send the Canned Replies file to yourself on the other device
  3. Import the file on the receiving device via the Import functionality

You can send this file to yourself the same way you send other files, for example, via email or any other app that supports file uploads (chat apps like Slack, etc.).

If you’d like to open the file to look at it (it looks like this), you can right click and click Open With and choose either Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac).
